in Hanover MA

Hanover MA has the most interesting Borders Express store I have seen to date: it is a stand-alone building instead of in a mall. I stayed from 12 - 4:20 because sales were going slow. Apparently Ted Kennedy's funeral was right down the street and there was an enormous turnout. Despite that, I sold 17 books! We will be doing a follow-up event at this store. I met a couple Christian guys who showed great enthusiasm for my novel. It is always great to meet fellow believers. Anywere in the world I can find a brother or a sister in Christ.

T-shirt "Swords of the Six"

I've added a widget to this blog so that you can order a Swords of the Six t-shirt. Many people at my book signings have asked where they can get one. So I've made it really simple: just click and purchase.

The price is reasonable... I ordered myself one today.

Return to Taunton MA

- Borders Express -

My first event at the Borders Express store in Taunton MA was, as my readers may remember, a sell-out event. Well, today I returned for a follow-up signing. It was the slowest day the store has seen in a while. The first hour was really slow and so I made the decision to stay until 3:30. I was glad I did because I ended up selling 20-books in total, leaving them with only 7 in stock! The store associates said that Swords of the Six has been selling well even in my absence. Now that is good news.

Booksigning - Waldenbooks in Brockton

- Waldenbooks -
We drove to Brockton MA to sign books in the Waldenbooks there. It's a very nice store with a great browsing atmosphere. I think we sold 13 books. Not bad for a sunny summer day near the coast! I met this new young reader there; Enjoy the book, Myles!

the Actual 1611

It is fascinating to read old literature. The oldest books are the best. The time required to put words on parchment back then required diligence. Here is a quote from the 1611 King James Version of the Bible. Please note that the 1611 Bibles currently sold are not the same as the version printed back then. The original bible contained the Apocrypha which was removed in the early 18th century:

The Wisdom of Solomon
Chapter XII verse 5, 7
"And also those mercilesse murderers of children, & devourers of mans flesh, and the feasts of blood . . . That the land which thou esteemedst above all other, might receive a worthy colonie of Gods children."

The words of Jesus Christ are lyrical in their beauty in the original.

The book of Hebrews is currently thought to be of unknown authorship. But in the original 1611 it says The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrewes and listen to how it opens:
"Christ in these last times comming to us from the Father is preferred above the angels, both in Person and Office." Every chapter is gifted with a powerful sentence like this. Modern scholars have been making changes that they don't expect common people to question. Most people believe that they own the original text of the 1611... few do.

Radio Interview Scheduled

I've been invited to do a live interview by a CT talk show host. She will be interviewing me Live on August 25, 2009. 8:00am at WCNI studio. You can live stream the interview by going to www.wcniradio.org So listen in and enjoy!

Opening More Doors

-Borders-
BOSTON, MA -Financial District
Notes: I'd long anticipated my first signing in a high-volume store like this one in Boston. And I was not disappointed. My wife sat at the table toward the back of the store and I handed out bookmarks and teaser cards as customers entered the building. I must have distributed over 200 handouts and we sold around 30 books. It is great to see the work I put into this series over the past 5 years paying off!

-Borders Express-
Westfarms Mall in Farmington, CT
Notes: This event started slow. I only sold 5 books in the first hour. But after 1 o'clock hit sales snowballed. We sold 24 books and the staff said I can come back anytime I want. I'm going to do another signing at this store. It is fascinating to me how the BordersExpress and Waldenbooks stores seem to consistently sell my book so well.

So, WHAT'S NEXT? I've been asking myself that question for the past two months as sales for Swords of the Six continue to rise despite the fact that I have only done this in the time I have available away from my night job. God is in my writing endeavors; I know that. But more and more my focus at my hourly job has been difficult to maintain. My wife and I talked it over and we reached a decision: August will be my last month in the factory. Starting the first week of September I'm going back to writing and book-promoting Full-Time. I feel great about this decision. Here's the Plan:

September - November Book signings in all of New England

December until whenever! My wife and I are packing, moving out of our apartment, getting in the car and driving out to Indiana to start a national book tour that will include Atlanta, GA.

Continuing Success!

I went to NY state on Thursday. The signing was in a rather quiet mall, though a handful of books still sold. A couple young readers came in with previously purchased books and I was glad to sign their copies.
Today my wife and I sold out Borders Express in Waterford CT--AGAIN! And we've arranged a follow-up signing for Black Friday.

WELCOME TO THE WRITING SITE OF SCOTT APPLETON

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones." -Proverbs 16:24

In a world where morality is forsaken and Christ neglected, wholesome books are uncommon. The themes of my writing are love, self-sacrifice, and honor.

I see my generation turning from God to the gods of this world. I see homes torn apart in the pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification. Children are murdered by the millions every year . . . without ever seeing the world outside their mothers' wombs. Through fiction I strive to encourage those who are willing, to stand against these things and be heroes and heroines; chivalrous, gentle, full of righteous indignation, and the fear and love of their Creator.
