Flaming Pen Press

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

It had previously been my intention to publish both secular and Christian books through Flaming Pen Press, so long as they were clean books; material I enjoyed reading either for its content or for its strong writing.

The Fairy’s Ruby Cage was not a Christian story. It will be the only and the last. The response to that little book was mixed. Everyone agreed it was well-written but a couple people thought it wasn’t a good story. They didn’t like the wily little fairy; the references to her tiny, attractive body.

From now on I will publish exclusively Christian books to ensure a God-honoring and values-consistent press that seeks not to offend but to uplift.

A courageous step that I know God will honor.

An honorable step, I agree.

Right now, Magpie is trying the secular and christian thing... but it's definitely difficult to find and choose the supposed right manuscript to start with. I'm wondering if I might not even go so far as to create a separate imprint for the more secular books. :)

I wish you luck!

The key to a successful press is meeting your niche market. You may want to consider reaching the same conclusion that I did; people in the Christian market don't trust the secular, and vice-versa. Choose one, and that market will grow for you.

*nods* Good point. I've definitely been considering it lately, especially since most of the submissions I've received have been rather blatantly secular, and I know that my audience would not appreciate them. There are a few manuscripts that have caught my interest, but until I read further, I'm skeptical of content. And it's also true that my market is mostly Christian with very few exceptions, so... yeah, I'm definitely trying to think through it all. :D Your posts are always very insightful, so thank you. ^_^

WELCOME TO THE WRITING SITE OF SCOTT APPLETON

"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones." -Proverbs 16:24

In a world where morality is forsaken and Christ neglected, wholesome books are uncommon. The themes of my writing are love, self-sacrifice, and honor.

I see my generation turning from God to the gods of this world. I see homes torn apart in the pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification. Children are murdered by the millions every year . . . without ever seeing the world outside their mothers' wombs. Through fiction I strive to encourage those who are willing, to stand against these things and be heroes and heroines; chivalrous, gentle, full of righteous indignation, and the fear and love of their Creator.
